Congratulations on signing up to climb Kilimanjaro and welcome to your Hub! Here, you can find a wealth of information about taking on the challenge, the most iconic trek in Africa. You’ll be able to find our bespoke Kili FAQs, blogs, training tips and more.
All of our treks vary in terms of height, distance and climate. What they do have in common is that they'll all be more enjoyable with a bit of training - so how do you train?
The story of our company starts with Kilimanjaro. In fact, it starts with two Kilimanjaros: Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, and Kilimanjaro Lager, a cold, bubbly and refreshing beverage that shares the famous mountain’s moniker. And it was whilst drinking a bottle (or possibly two…) of said Kilimanjaro lager, perched on cheap plastic garden chairs in a small village on the slopes of the mountain that my Co-founder Charles Milton and I came up with the idea that was to become Choose a Challenge.
Everything you need to know about the plastic ban in Tanzania, as well as some useful tips to help you store some of your personal items and adapt your packing strategy.
Our team recently sat down and revisited what our core values are as a company and how we’re making strides to provide much more than just an overseas challenge to our student participants. We boiled down a list of nearly 15 values down to six, which we’re excited to share with you.
Our very own Sam has headed out to Tanzania twice for the climb. Here, he answers our questions all about his return to Kili.
Before he started work in the Choose a Challenge USA’s team, Ben Burtis headed out as a participant on a Kilimanjaro trek in 2018. Here he tells us all about his experience on our amazing extension trip, Safari and Zanzibar.

This blog includes an extremely concise fact-file on the in-country experience. You can find out a little bit about the culture in Tanzania as well as its history. There's some information on what it's like in Moshi and a few pointers on the trek itself.
We take the utmost care in organising our challenges to ensure they are as safe as possible; we only travel in mostly hassle-free countries, follow advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and use trusted ground suppliers. Whilst we endeavour to keep you as safe as we can, there are a few (common sense!) things you can do too to keep your challenge as risk-free and enjoyable as possible!
Reaching Uhuru Peak was an unforgettable experience, but I often feel that too much emphasis is put on this aspect of the challenge. People often overlook what else the Kilimanjaro challenge has to offer, besides the trek itself. Let me show you why else you should consider signing up…
Some of the most common questions we get from our participants relate to the food on our challenges, so here are my favourite foodie moments from my Kilimanjaro trek!
